I finally got to see
one of my all time favourite bands. It's only taken me 7 years. I was amped about the concert and I wasn't let down.
We
got lost so we missed the Tremors (how can two car loads of people with a map and an almost local get lost finding the Newcastle
Entertainment Centre?). The John Butler Trio received an ovation almost as large as Powderfingers. They are awesome! The ten
minute version of Better Man rocked the house and every foot was tapping to the hippy rhythms. JBT's drum solo left
me speechless. The drummers hands were almost a blur and he is the first person I have ever seen that can pull off
a one handed drum roll (on drums anyway...)!
Powderfinger
came on with a bang and some funky bird shaped spotlights. The set list was mainly new stuff but we were occasionally treated
with snippets from Internationalist and Double Allergic (I was still hanging out for them to play Sink Low
though). The guys continued to impress us with solos and were interactive. They have an incredible stage presence. Since
you've been gone moved me to tears. Bernie also played the best version of Passenger I've ever heard - just
him and the piano. Nothing will ever get that song out of my mind now. It just doesn't sound the same with guitars.
The
set list was as follows:
1. Rockin' Rocks
2.
Waiting For The Sun
3. Love Your Way
4. Since You've Been Gone
5. Thrilloilogy
6. My Kinda Scene
7. Stumblin'
(with a great solo from Coggsy)
8. Don't Wanna Be Left Out
9. These Days (bern on the keyboard un accompanied)
10.
How Far Have We Really Come?
11. Rita
12. Sunsets
13. Passenger
14. Like A Dog
15. On My Mind
With
an encore of:
16.
Pockets
17. Pick You Up
18. My Happiness
Sorry
Pacifier but this has taken over as my top concert experience.
